Windows Phone 7 smartphones sold last Q1

A point of interest is of course the relatively humble yet noteworthy 1.6 million Windows Phone 7 sales. For an operating system at its infant states and from a company whose mobile strategy in the past was less than outstanding, 1.6 million is good start. It is projected that should Microsoft maintain this figure and add a couple of million on top, the company could well be on their way on selling 10 million phones this year. While the number pales in comparison to the likes of iOS’ 50 million and Android’s 100 million, Windows Phone 7’s achievement is far from a failure.

Whether or not this figure is what Microsoft had hoped for is anyone’s guess, but they deserve a pat on the back anyway. Not too long ago, Android had a similarly slow start, and with WP7 undergoing major changes, it will be interesting to see what measures Microsoft will take in order to become a serious contender.
